The Xavante blackberry is derived from seeds, collected in Clarksville, Arkansas, US, from a cross between the A-1620 and A-1507 varieties made in 1988, and is the second generation of this cross, made in 2004.
It has vigorous, upright stems without thorns and is a low-chilling cultivar.
The berries have an elongated shape, medium firmness and a sweet-acid flavor. Under the climatic conditions of southern Brazil, flowering begins in September and extends to October, and harvesting occurs in early November and ends in early February. Yield is moderate, up to 1.5 kg per plant (4t/ha). Berries are not large, averaged weight is about 5 g.
Blackberry Xavante demonstrates more longer harvest season than the another popular Brazilian variety Tupi (more than 50 days) and high adaptivity to different regions.
Xavante has low chilling requirements - about 250 hours with temperatures lower than 7 C.
