Polarberry is indeed a white-fruited blackberry. This variety was bred by Lubera AG in Switzerland.
In addition to the simple surprise effect, this variety's color is certainly also horticulturally interesting - the flavor changes without the anthocyanins and becomes sweeter. There will be no more sunburn, which is almost standard for blackberries in midsummer. And white blackberries are pecked less by birds and less affected by the spotted wing drosophila. Bushes are medium-strong, semi-erect. The canes are heavily prickly. Height is about 1,5 m. The ripeness of the berries begins at the end of July and lasts until September. Fruits of Polarberry are small to medium in size, white-beige in color. Taste is sweet with little acidity as typical blackberry.
Winter hardiness is about minus 25 C.
See Nettleton Creamy White, who was the source of this variety.
