Plablack 1401 (designated by the breeder as 14.01R.28) is primocane fruiting blackberry cultivar from Plantas de Navarra, Spain. Plablack 1401 variety patented in 2019 (parents are not patented).
Time of beginning of flowering and ripening on current year's canes is very early. This variety produces and maintains a strong vigorous plant with consistent fruit production from middle September through the end of December on primocanes and from the end of April through the beginning of June on floricanes (tested in Spain).
As described in patent, the cultivar Plablack 1401 is closest to the variety Reuben and to the variety Tupi. Plablack 1401 has larger spine density in canes than Reuben and smaller than Tupi. The spines are long and can be situated in the petioles. Growth habit is upright. Canes length varies from 170 to 200 cm.
Plablack 1401 has an oblong shaped fruit and a bigger fruit size than Reuben. Average yields on the trial fields were 1500 g per plant on floricanes and about 420 g per plant on primocanes. Fruit are about 37 mm to 43 mm in length, 27 mm to 31 mm in width, color is glossy black. Firmness is medium.
Plablack 1401 is principally propagated by the way of root cuttings.
