Hull Thornless is high-yielding aromatic blackberry variety for commercial cultivation and home gardening, has Thornfree and Darrow cultivars in parents. Selected by Illinois Southern Illinois University, distributed since 1981.
Bushes are medium-strong, have semi-erect, long (3-5 m) spineless stems. Height is low to medium (1-1.5 m), plants have numerous side shoots, due to this feature plant seems very spreading.
Hull Thornless starts to bloom in early June, flower's color is white with purple tint. First berries mature at the end of July, harvest period is very long, more than 30 days. Yield is high and stable, up to 45 kg from plant. Fruit are large, have elliptical form, black color with glossy, large-sized drupelets. Single fruits can be very large up to 12-14 g. Firmness is enough for transport. Taste is sour, ripe berries are very aromatic.
Hull Thornless is very low susceptibility to rot diseases, medium-high susceptible to blackberry gall mite. Winter hardiness is excellent, up to minus 23 C.
