Agate blackberry variety was bred in Russia.
This variety has an mid-summer ripening period (produces fruit in mid-July), bears fruit on floricanes. The stems are semi-erect, completely thornless. The bushes of Agate are vigorous, but the number of replacement stems is low. Floricanes have a dark purple color with a brown tinge. Primocanes have a purple color. Fruit laterals are slightly pubescent, with a little waxy coating. Stems and laterals are covered with a lot of small hairs.
The leaves of the Agate blackberry are large, dark green in color, slightly twisted. The flowers are white, large. Fruit are covered with a hairs.
Average fruit weight is 4 g, individual specimens can reach 6 g, shape is conical, color is black with glossy. Agate blackberry cant present of a sweet taste (the taste is sweet and sour with a pronounced sourness), the soluble solids content is low - about 80 g/litre, while the acid content reaches 18 g/litre. There is no pronounced aroma at ripen fruits. The berries are soft, the skin can be easily damaged. Yield is low, about 2 t/ha.
Winter hardiness is excellent, up to minus 23 C. Disease resistance is moderate.
